We love Winchester
We are blessed to have three high profile institutions located in our parish and we are privileged to serve each of them in different ways. Find out more below.
-
University of Winchester
We have a large and lively student population who are actively involved in the church and who we supply with fresh coffee, free wifi and community in return!
We often host events run by the Christian Union and support the Chaplaincy team.
-
Royal Hampshire County Hospital
We love to support the Chaplaincy team at the local hospital, and have often sent festive singers to sing carols at Christmas (as well as at many local care homes).
We are also in close collaboration with Winchester Hospice next door to the Hospital.
-
HMP Winchester
We regularly contribute towards Sunday services for the prisoners as well as providing Prison Pastors to lend a listening ear. We have also run Alpha in the Chapel.
We also love writing cards to every prisoner at Christmas, as well as providing hampers for the staff.
Serving Winchester Together
We are part of a strong community of churches and together we reach out with many city-wide ventures providing support for the physical, mental and spiritual needs of Winchester.
The community also arrange city-wide events and missions to bring all the body of Jesus together for His glory in the locality.
We love to partner with many different churches in the city to spread God’s kingdom here in Winchester. Here are just three projects that we support.
-
Nurturing Programme
We have sent a team to Winnall Community Centre to provide the Nurturing Programme, a 10-week course for parents designed by Family Links. It is a joy to help parents learn more about child development.
This course is designed to build and sustain emotional health and relationships in families. Below is a link to articles and resources from Family Links.
-
City Centre Chaplaincy
The chaplaincy visit many of the shops and workplaces in the City as well as the City Council, the Bus Station, the Police and the Law Court to provide a listening ear for those who need to talk.
They provide a free, confidential service where they just listen and signpost to help available from other organisations.
-
Street Pastors
Many of our congregation volunteer with Street Pastors, who help to increase the safety and care of people at night in the city centre. They go out every weekend and are supported by Prayer Pastors.
They have received the Mayor’s Award for service to the community and have built up great relationships with the local police, clubs and bars.
