Helter Skelter
Repairing our spire and adding a unique feature to Winchester’s skyline.
Have you noticed the terrifyingly long ladder snaking its way up Christ Church’s Tower?
It’s been used to inspect the stone and iron work and remains in place for remedial works later this year. We need to strengthen the Tower as some of the existing ironwork has rusted away.
We love to bring creativity and imagination to everything we do here at Christ Church Winchester. In consultation with Snug Architects, we have designed a very exciting project that will enhance the Tower’s structural integrity and add a unique feature to Winchester’s skyline.
We have designed an amazing Helter Skelter slide that will take you, in 17 seconds, from the top of the Tower around the building and into the baptistry.
See it for yourself
Watch the video below to find out more about the works to the spire including ringing endorsements from Bishop Tim Dakin and local MP, Steve Brine.
Name the Slide!
The one remaining decision is the slide’s name. So we invite members of the congregation and the local community to choose one from our shortlist, or add their own.
What about ‘Meet Thy Maker’? ‘Backsliding’? ‘Nearer My God to Thee’? ‘The Winchester Whirlpool’?
Please register your choice to get the chance to be the first person up the ladder and down the slide!
